Sedona Series Layout: 10 '15

I have been working all week on getting the Sedona Series ready to be hung at the Seacoast Artists Gallery tomorrow.  As usual, the gallery notified me a couple of weeks ago, how much space I was allocated, and where that space would be.  It is now up to me to decide how many paintings I should put in that space , and  how to arrange that set within my  wall space.  

Of course the Gallery does have rules about the minimum amount of space they allow between paintings, and how close to the floor or ceiling one can hang art work,  but that still leaves a lot of room for arrangements.  I spent  most of the day today trying different layouts out on my living room floor to see which paintings looked  together by color and shape.  After a testing out a dozen different arrangements, I have finally settled upon this one.   It will allow me to hang  at least eight of the ten paintings from the Sedona Series, and still have enough flexibility in sizes that if one sells, I won't have to  rehang the entire wall just to replace it.  

Spring has arrived at the SAG Gallery 4 '14

All my new Spring Series paintings went on display today at the Seacoast Artists Guild Gallery at the Market Common.  I really like how well they looked as a set.

Fine Art America Sold 3 Reproductions

I've spent the better part of the last week reorganizing my  2 websites.  I've added almost a hundred new paintings to both It's pretty tedious work, and  I still have a few more edits before I can publish the updated version of the website for my originals

New Facebook Fan Page Available as well

Today I worked on creating a FB Fan Page link for shopping FAA prints and reproductions. I wish setting up a Facebook fan page was as easy as setting up a website on Fine Arts America. My poor right brain mentality really struggled with this project.

Lots and Lots of new Spring Paintings

Most of the paintings I have at Island were painted in  autumn  or winter with seasonal color to match.    Actually most of my paintings  are painted in very warm  tones  or very cool grays, as I prefer those ends of the palette.  But who wants to purchase a painting of fall or winter foliage, when all around them out of doors azaleas and camellias and dogwood are exploding into glorious shades of pinks and purples?    This past month  I  decided it is time to drag out my photos of Brookgreen Gardens  taken last Spring and start some new paintings. 



Tulips,iceland poppies,  ranunculus, wisteria, azalea have all been blooming on my canvases.  Guess I can paint in Spring colors if I put my mind to it.

After viewing  eight of my paintings, the owners of Island Art Gallery on Pawleys Island have agreed to represent my work.  I am delighted.  The Gallery is located right next to the major tourist attraction of the Hammock Shops  on Highway 17.    It has good visibility from the highway , lots of foot traffic, and does a steady  business..

 
I promptly stripped my living room walls of the Pawley's Island Series and took them over to the Gallery . They gave me a great wall which is well lit both by Northern facing Windows and gallery lighting.  My paintings will be able to be seen from almost every place in the gallery except the classroom..  My only concern right now is being able to paint enough paintings to be able to keep the walls filled and to  be able to rotate the work on a regular basis.

While the owners do not demand that their artists offer only low country subject matter, many of the paintings do focus on that theme, so my work will fit well with the tone of the gallery.  The other artists, with whom I will share the gallery, are highly skilled and offer very professional looking work.  I am pleased to be in such good company.

Swan Lake Arts and Crafts Show 5 '10

Sumter, SC has been hosting and Arts and Crafts Show at its the annual Iris Festival which is held at  the local landmark Swan Lake Park.   I decided to make the event my  Artist Date for this week..

First of all I  wanted to see the Iris.  The last time I visited the gardens the Iris had not yet begun to bloom.  But they should be at their peak of bloom right now and I really wanted to get some reference photos of both the Iris and the swans.

While the iris were definitely in  full bloom, we were disappointed in how few  blooms there were growing around the lake.  The we discovered why.   It seems that the Lake's other famous attraction .. i.e. swans have a craving for iris blooms. CC  watched the hefty fella  below munch down a half dozen just while she was standing there.

No wonder the park has fencing around so many of its flowers.

My second reason for going was to scout out whether I wanted to consider an entry into  the Arts and Crafts Show in 2011. 

There were a fair number of  fine art craft vendors selling .. glass , wearable art, woodwork  and a variety of other crafts.  There was only one full time painter, and one person who had some paintings and some crafts     (below).  Both said their  low cost reproductions had sold quite well.

While we both  enjoyed the day, the  Art Craft Show itself did not seem to be the right venue for my art work..

Hobcaw Barony Bird Watching 1 '08

We were up bright an early on Friday, January 11th  for a bird watching event at  the Hobcaw Barony Reserve.   

The Reserve is at the North Inlet – Winyah Bay. 

  It is a vast area of virgin forest and marshland which is open to the public only through docent led tours.   We had signed up for a bird watching tour in the hopes of meeting other conservation minded folks.  As it turns out, the birding was poor that day; we only  saw  one bald eagle, a red meringer, a common loon, a dozen white pelicans (they rare in South Carolina), lesser and greater yellow legs,  red wing black birds,  yellow rumps, and a few other common woodland species. Even the herons and storks were no where to be seen.  The views of the vast  pristine marshland, made up for the lack of birds.

Since we were driven in vans to the birding sites, there was no exercise to speak of, so I  can’t quite count this an artists date.  On the other hand, the social contacts were outstanding.  and I got a zillion reference photos of this off limits  paradise.
